What is moringa?

The moringa plant is native to South Asia and has been extensively used for its medicinal properties and massive health benefits. It is a whole food naturally abundant in vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids. Virtually every part of the moringa plant, its pods, seeds, leaves, are edible and packed with nutrition. A small serving of this nutrient-rich superfood contains seven times more vitamin C than an orange, seventeen times more calcium than milk, nine times more protein than yogurt, and twenty-five times more iron than spinach.

What are the health benefits of moringa?

Also known as the “drumstick tree,” the moringa plant contains many science-backed benefits and medicinal uses. Let's discuss the different parts of moringa and their numerous benefits:

The leaves

Leaves are the most nutrient-dense part of the moringa plant. Moringa leaves hold incredible importance as a nutritional supplement. A cup of chopped moringa leaves is a good source of iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B6, and riboflavin. In fact, moringa leaves contain more vitamin C than oranges. It also contains significant quantities of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin E, and magnesium.  These nutrients in moringa help improve immunity, enhance bone health and give more radiance to the skin.  Miracle Tree products only use organic moringa leaves straight from the source in Sri Lanka.

The seeds

Seeds of the moringa plant are large and circular-shaped. They grow inside the long pods of the moringa tree and have gained scientific interest due to the significant amount of oil with a high-quality fatty acid composition. Moringa seeds contain more than 30 natural antioxidants, like kaempferol, that boost metabolism, and help burn more calories. The seeds also have high protein content, carbohydrates and fibers. Fresh pods and seeds of the moringa plant are a great source of oleic acid, a healthy fatty acid known to support heart health.

The roots

Roots of the moringa plant have been used for their therapeutic properties since ancient times. Moringa roots are known for their antibiotic properties and are used to cure various conditions like asthma, digestive disorders, inflammation, gastritis and skin disorders. It is even used by rural women in India as contraception.  As we focus on the moringa leaf, Miracle Tree doesn't use the roots in any of our products.

The flowers

Moringa flowers are considered a delicacy in many parts of the world. In Ayurvedic practice, moringa flowers were used to make medicinal teas and pressed juice. This juice may help treat urinary tract infections and is used as supplements for breastfeeding women to increase lactation. As we focus on the moringa leaf, Miracle Tree doesn't use the flowers in any of our products.

The trunk

The trunk of the moringa plant contains many antibiotic properties. It is used to treat sexually transmitted diseases, gout and arthritis. In many countries, the trunk is used for fencing and as animal fodder.  As we focus on the moringa leaf, Miracle Tree doesn't use the trunk in any of our products.
