Miracle Tree's Blog - Five Benefits to a Vegan Diet

Why veganism is a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle

Veganism is a term that has been around since 1944 and has been used to describe a way of life that excludes all forms of animal cruelty and exploitation in food, clothing or any other purpose. Although the vegan lifestyle has been around for several decades, it has recently gained momentum as celebrities, such as Liam Hemsworth and Ariana Grande, have joined the movement. Given its rising popularity and moral justification, here are five benefits to a vegan diet.

Respect for animals

Did you know that every person that chooses to go vegan saves more than 100 animals a year? If so, can you imagine how much of a difference a vegan community can make? Did you know that it has been proven that animals feel empathy, with many of them having an IQ of a two-year-old.

Reduce water consumption

One of the biggest benefits to a vegan diet is the need to save water. Animal farming requires an incredibly large amount of water to nourish the grain fields that feed livestock. In fact, according to National Geographic, over 70 percent of our planet’s accessible water is used solely for the purpose of growing food and raising animals for meat.

Enjoy a healthier lifestyle

Pursuing a vegan or plant-based lifestyle has numerous health benefits as the diet is rich in protein, iron, calcium, vitamins and minerals. Unlike meat, which is high in cholesterol and saturated fat. When it comes to health, the benefits to a vegan diet are: Increase in energy, a slimmer shape and radiant skin. Moreover, vegans are less likely to suffer from heart disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer.

Vegan food is tasty

Despite common belief that vegan food is bland and tasteless, the truth is that vegan alternatives are growing rapidly. As more people are joining the movement, companies and chefs are starting to develop dairy and meat alternatives that abide by the vegan principles while being just as good as a non-vegan meal. It’s also easy to enjoy vegan meals by using healthy substitutes like vegan protein powders and other superfood powders, like our Moringa Superfood Powder make it easy to get protein, iron and amino acids which are common in meat.

Sustainability

Vegan’s plant-based diet only requires one-third of the land needed to support a meat and dairy-based diet. As our lack of resources and water scarcity becomes more evident, going vegan should be considered a course of action to battle the shortages that we’re facing.

Truth be told, going vegan has never been easier, as numerous celebrities and institutions are spreading the message and creating meal alternatives. Every time you head over to the grocery store or out to a restaurant, make the choice to choose vegan options.
