Does Moringa Tea Have Caffeine?

Short answer: 18 of our 20 herbal moringa tea flavors contain no caffeine at all. Pure moringa leaf is naturally caffeine-free. Two herbal flavors are blends and carry a small amount — Green Tea (under 1mg) and Earl Grey (5–10mg). Our separate Moringa Energy Tea line is deliberately caffeinated at 155mg per cup, roughly a strong coffee.

Why moringa leaf has no caffeine

Caffeine occurs naturally in the Camellia sinensis plant — the plant that gives us black, green, white and oolong tea — and in coffee, cacao, yerba mate and guarana. Moringa (Moringa oleifera) is not related to any of them. It is a tree, and its leaf contains no caffeine whatsoever. So any tea made purely from moringa leaf is caffeine-free by nature, not by decaffeination.

That is why our caffeinated teas say so plainly: the caffeine in them was added by blending in a caffeinated leaf, never by the moringa.

Common questions

Can I drink moringa tea at night?

Yes, with the 18 caffeine-free flavors. Many customers drink Lemon & Chamomile, Mint or Rooibos in the evening. Save Earl Grey and the Energy line for daytime.

Is decaffeinated the same as caffeine-free?

No. Decaffeinated means caffeine was removed from a leaf that had it, and a trace remains — that is our Green Tea flavor, at under 1mg. Caffeine-free means it was never there, which is the case for the other 18 herbal flavors.

Does moringa tea give you energy without caffeine?

Our herbal moringa teas contain no caffeine, so any effect is not stimulant-driven. Moringa leaf is nutrient-dense and contributes vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids as part of a balanced diet. If you specifically want caffeine, that is what the Energy Tea line is for.

How much caffeine is in a moringa tea bag before brewing?

The figures above are for the brewed cup, which is what you actually drink. For the 18 caffeine-free flavors the answer is the same either way: none.

Is moringa tea safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Please ask your doctor or midwife. We do not give medical advice, and guidance on herbal teas during pregnancy and breastfeeding is individual.
