What Does Moringa Tea Taste Like?

Short answer: moringa tea tastes green and earthy, closer to a mild green tea than to a herbal fruit infusion. Our Original flavour is unflavoured moringa leaf, so it leads with that clean, grassy, slightly sweet character. The other 19 flavours blend moringa with real fruit, spice or flower, which softens the earthiness considerably.

We would rather tell you this plainly than have a box arrive tasting like something you did not expect. A consistent minority of our reviewers do not enjoy the earthy note in Original, and that is worth knowing before you choose your first flavour.

What moringa leaf itself tastes like

Brewed on its own, moringa leaf is:

• Green and grassy, in the same family as a light green tea or a fresh spinach note
• Mildly earthy, with a clean finish rather than a lingering bitterness
• Naturally a little sweet, with no sugar added
• Not bitter when brewed correctly, though over-steeping in fully boiling water will pull out more of the green note

Our Original won a Great Taste award in 2015, where the judges described it as having a "very clean finish, inviting another sip."

Taste notes for all 20 herbal flavours

Roughly ordered from most earthy to least.

Flavour	Tastes like
Original	Pure moringa. Green, grassy, clean. The most earthy in the range — start here only if you like green tea.
Green Tea	Familiar green-tea character, slightly rounder than Original. Made with decaffeinated green tea leaves.
Rooibos	Warm, woody, naturally sweet. Softens the moringa without hiding it.
Turmeric	Golden, peppery, earthy-warm. Good with a splash of milk.
Ginger	Sharp, warming ginger heat over the green base.
Earl Grey	Bergamot and black tea, floral and citrusy. The most conventional "cup of tea" in the range.
Mint	Cool and clean. The mint reads first, the moringa second.
Hibiscus	Tart, floral, deep red in the cup. Brightest acidity in the range.
Lemon & Chamomile	Soft, floral, gently citrusy. The calmest cup we make.
Lemon	Bright and clean citrus. A good first step away from Original.
Lemon & Ginger	Citrus up front, ginger warmth behind it.
Apple & Cinnamon	Baked apple and warm spice. Tastes like autumn.
Pumpkin Spice	Cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Seasonal and dessert-like.
Peach & Ginger	Sweet stone fruit with a ginger edge.
Honey & Vanilla	Smooth, rounded, naturally sweet. One of the easiest for a first-timer.
Blueberry	Ripe berry, gently sweet, low acidity.
Strawberry	Sweet and aromatic. Very good iced.
Mango	Tropical and juicy. The moringa sits well underneath it.
Watermelon	Light, fresh, summery. Our most refreshing iced option.
Chocolate	Rich and cocoa-forward. The furthest from a green cup, and the most dessert-like.

Which flavour should I start with?

• If you already drink green tea: Original or Green Tea.
• If you are unsure about "earthy": Honey & Vanilla, Mango or Chocolate. These carry the most flavour over the leaf.
• If you want something for the evening: Lemon & Chamomile, Mint or Rooibos — all caffeine-free.
• If you cannot decide: a four-flavour bundle is the cheapest way to find your favourite.

How to make it taste its best

1. Do not use fully boiling water on the green flavours. Around 80°C / 175°F suits Original and Green Tea. Boiling is fine for the spiced and fruit blends.
2. Steep 3–5 minutes. Longer pulls out more of the green, earthy note. If your cup tastes too "vegetal", steep less.
3. Try it iced. Brew double strength, chill, pour over ice. The fruit flavours in particular get sweeter and rounder cold.
4. A little honey or milk works. Honey suits the citrus and floral blends; milk suits Turmeric and Chocolate.

Common questions

Is moringa tea bitter?

It should not be. Bitterness usually means the water was too hot or the bag steeped too long. Drop to about 80°C and 3 minutes and try again.

Does moringa tea taste like matcha?

They share a green, vegetal family resemblance, but moringa is lighter and less intense, with none of matcha's thickness or umami. Moringa tea is also caffeine-free in 18 of our 20 herbal flavours, which matcha is not.

What does moringa powder taste like?

Stronger than the tea — more concentrated and more distinctly green, since you consume the whole leaf rather than an infusion. Most people blend our powder into a smoothie or latte rather than drinking it in water.
