Whether you're after something green and grounding, something creamy and chocolatey, or just a way to get more leaf into a morning, your blender is the shortest route - and moringa powder is the easiest thing to add to it.
At Miracle Tree, we call moringa nature's multivitamin for a reason that's easy to check on a label. Our Organic Moringa Powder is milled from whole moringa leaf - nothing extracted, nothing isolated - and carries all nine essential amino acids, vitamins A, C, E and the B group, and the minerals calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium. A 2 tsp (4 g) serving gives you 10% DV of both iron and calcium and 6% DV of vitamins A, C and B1, for 7 calories.
Why add moringa to your smoothie?
Moringa (Moringa oleifera), the "miracle tree," is a time-honored leaf with a few properties that make it unusually blender-friendly:
- It's a complete plant protein - all nine essential amino acids, which is rare in a leaf
- 47 documented antioxidant compounds, among them quercetin, chlorogenic acid and beta-carotene
- Broad mineral content - iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium
- A mild flavor that disappears into fruit in a way kale and wheatgrass never quite manage
That flavor, precisely: green and grassy with a faint peppery finish, closest to matcha. It goes beautifully with banana, mango, pineapple, citrus, cacao and nut butter. Start with 1 teaspoon per serving.
Bright and tropical
For: a slow start, a Monday, a morning that needs something to happen.
Why it works: moringa leaf is a source of iron and vitamin B6 - nutrients involved in the body's normal energy metabolism and in red blood cell function. Pineapple's vitamin C sits alongside the leaf's plant-based iron, and vitamin C improves the absorption of iron from plant sources, so the pairing is doing more than tasting good.
Try: Tropical Moringa Smoothie
- 1 cup coconut water
- ½ banana
- ½ cup pineapple chunks
- Handful of spinach
- 1 tsp Miracle Tree Moringa Powder
Bright, light, and the best first moringa smoothie to make if you've never had one.
Support your immune system
For: the run-down stretch of winter, or the week after a long flight.
Why it works: moringa contains vitamin C, beta-carotene (which the body converts to vitamin A) and polyphenols. Vitamins A and C both contribute to the normal function of the immune system, and the leaf's antioxidant compounds help protect cells from oxidative stress.
Try: Berry Blast Moringa Smoothie
- ½ cup mixed berries
- ½ cup Greek yogurt (or a dairy-free alternative)
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp Miracle Tree Moringa Powder
- Splash of almond milk
Creamy, tart and antioxidant-rich. Use dark berries rather than strawberries if you care how it looks - red plus green makes brown.
Green and grounding
For: after a heavy meal, a long weekend, or a run of days when vegetables didn't get a look in.
Why it works: this one is about fiber and water more than anything else. Avocado, cucumber, kale and chia together carry a serious amount of fiber and fluid, and moringa adds chlorophyll, minerals and its green note. It's the smoothie that most feels like a reset, mostly because it's the one closest to eating a salad.
Try: Green Goddess Moringa Smoothie
- ½ avocado
- ½ cucumber
- Handful of kale
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp Miracle Tree Moringa Powder
- Coconut water to blend
- Juice of half a lemon
Clean, creamy and genuinely filling. The lemon is what keeps it from tasting worthy - don't skip it.
Skin-loving nutrients
For: dry-weather months, or when your skin has had a hard week.
Why it works: moringa leaf is a source of vitamins A and E, both of which contribute to the maintenance of normal skin, along with antioxidant compounds that help protect cells from oxidative stress. Both vitamins are fat-soluble, so the almond butter here is functional as well as delicious.
Try: Chocolate Moringa Smoothie
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- ½ banana
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- 1 tsp Miracle Tree Moringa Powder
- 1 cup almond milk
Like dessert, and the cacao hides the green entirely - useful if you're introducing moringa to a skeptic.
Bright and citrus
For: grey mornings and fresh starts.
Why it works: moringa leaf contains tryptophan, an essential amino acid the body uses to make serotonin, along with magnesium and B vitamins that are involved in normal nervous system function. The citrus does its own work - vitamin C, and a smell that wakes a kitchen up.
Try: Citrus Sunshine Moringa Smoothie
- Juice of 1 orange
- ½ cup mango chunks
- ½ banana
- Handful of spinach
- 1 tsp Miracle Tree Moringa Powder
Zesty, vibrant and full of vitamin C.
Mix, blend, repeat
Moringa goes into almost any smoothie. Start with ½ to 1 teaspoon of our USDA-certified organic powder and adjust from there. Four things that make the difference between a good moringa smoothie and a gritty one:
- Liquid and powder first. Blend those two alone for a few seconds before anything frozen goes in. Moringa clumps against cold.
- Always add acid. Citrus, pineapple or berries. It brightens the flavor and helps with iron absorption.
- Always add fat. Nut butter, seeds or avocado - vitamins A and E need it, and the drink holds you longer.
- Drink it fresh. The green fades with air and time.
Good pairings to experiment with: ginger or turmeric for warmth; pineapple or citrus for vitamin C; avocado or nut butter for creaminess and healthy fats; a pinch of sea salt, which does for a smoothie what it does for everything else.
