Introduction: The Art of Moringa Tea
There's something magical about a perfectly brewed cup of tea—the aroma, the warmth, the ritual. But when it comes to moringa tea, proper brewing isn't just about taste; it's about getting the most out of every leaf. Whether you're new to moringa or a seasoned enthusiast, this guide will help you brew the perfect cup every time.
Why Brewing Method Matters
Moringa leaf is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and some of those compounds are heat-sensitive. The right brewing temperature and steeping time help you draw out full flavor without scalding the leaf. Too hot, and the cup turns bitter; too cool, and you won't get the full flavor profile.
What You'll Need
Essential Equipment:
- Fresh, filtered water (chlorine and impurities affect taste)
- Kettle or pot (preferably with temperature control)
- Teapot or mug (ceramic or glass works best)
- Timer (your phone works perfectly)
- Your favorite Miracle Tree moringa tea
Optional Enhancements:
- Honey or natural sweetener
- Fresh lemon or lime
- Fresh ginger slices
- Cinnamon stick
- Milk or plant-based milk alternative
The Perfect Brewing Method: Step-by-Step
Step 1: Heat Your Water (Temperature is Key)
Ideal Temperature: 195-205°F (90-96°C)
This is just below boiling. If you don't have a temperature-controlled kettle, simply:
- Bring water to a full boil
- Remove from heat
- Let it sit for 30-60 seconds
- It's now at the perfect temperature
Why not boiling? Water at a hard boil (212°F/100°C) scalds the leaf and pulls out tannins, which is what makes a cup taste harsh. Just off the boil gives you a rounder, sweeter cup.
One exception — our green-leaf blend. Green Tea Moringa contains decaffeinated green tea leaves alongside the moringa, and green tea leaf wants cooler water: around 175°F (80°C) for 2-3 minutes. Brewed at the hotter temperature above, it turns astringent. Every other flavor in the herbal range is moringa leaf plus botanicals and follows the standard method.
Step 2: Prepare Your Tea
For Tea Bags:
- Place 1 tea bag in your cup or teapot
- If making a stronger brew, use 2 bags
- Pre-warm your cup with hot water, then discard (this helps maintain temperature)
Our Apple & Cinnamon, Ginger, and other flavored varieties come in individually sealed bags, each portioned for a single 8 oz cup.
Step 3: Pour and Steep (Timing is Everything)
Optimal Steeping Time: 3-5 minutes
- Pour the heated water over your tea bag
- Cover your cup or teapot (this traps heat and aromatic compounds)
- Set your timer for 3-5 minutes
- Resist the urge to squeeze or agitate the tea bag (this can release bitter compounds)
Steeping Time Guide:
- 2-3 minutes: Light, delicate flavor (good for sensitive palates)
- 3-5 minutes: Full-bodied and fully extracted (recommended)
- 6+ minutes: Very strong, may become slightly bitter
Step 4: Remove and Enjoy
- Gently remove the tea bag (no squeezing!)
- Add any desired enhancements
- Sip and savor
Flavor Variations & Enhancements
Classic Lemon & Honey
Add a squeeze of fresh lemon and a teaspoon of raw honey. The lemon brightens the grassy notes in the moringa leaf, and the honey rounds off the finish.
Golden Milk Moringa Latte
Perfect for our Turmeric Moringa Tea:
- Brew tea as directed
- Add 1/2 cup warm milk (dairy or plant-based)
- Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (if not using turmeric tea)
- Pinch of black pepper
- Sweeten with honey or maple syrup
- Optional: dash of cinnamon
Iced Moringa Tea
Perfect for warm weather:
- Brew tea using 2 tea bags for a stronger concentrate
- Steep for 5 minutes
- Remove tea bags and let cool to room temperature
- Pour over ice
- Add fresh mint, lemon slices, or berries
- Sweeten if desired
Spiced Chai-Style Moringa
Especially delicious with our Chai Spice Moringa Energy Tea:
- Add fresh ginger slices and a cinnamon stick to your cup
- Pour hot water and add tea bag
- Steep for 5 minutes
- Add warm milk and honey
- Strain and enjoy
The Morning Cup
Our Moringa Energy Tea range carries about 155mg of natural caffeine per sachet — roughly a strong cup of coffee — so it's the one to reach for first thing. Try it with:
- A squeeze of fresh orange juice
- 1/2 tsp coconut oil, whisked in for a richer body
- A pinch of cayenne, if you like a little heat
Everything in the herbal range is caffeine-free, so those are the ones to save for the afternoon and evening. If you're unsure which is which, our caffeine guide lists every flavor.
Common Brewing Mistakes to Avoid
1. Using Boiling Water
❌ Mistake: Pouring actively boiling water directly on tea
✅ Solution: Let water cool for 30-60 seconds after boiling
2. Under-Steeping
❌ Mistake: Pulling the bag after a minute or two
✅ Solution: Steep the full 3-5 minutes for a full-bodied cup
3. Squeezing the Tea Bag
❌ Mistake: Squeezing tea bag to extract more flavor
✅ Solution: Gently remove without squeezing to avoid bitterness
4. Using Poor Quality Water
❌ Mistake: Using tap water with chlorine or impurities
✅ Solution: Use filtered or spring water for best taste
5. Not Covering While Steeping
❌ Mistake: Leaving cup uncovered during steeping
✅ Solution: Cover to trap heat and aromatic compounds

Getting the Most from Every Cup
Pair with Healthy Fats: Vitamins A and E are fat-soluble. Have your tea alongside nuts or avocado, or add a splash of coconut milk.
Make It a Routine: A cup at the same point each day is the easiest way to make it stick.
Don't Waste the Second Steep: A quality moringa tea bag holds up to a second steep. It will be lighter, but it is still a proper cup of tea.
Storage Tips for Freshness
- Keep tea bags in original packaging or airtight container
- Store in cool, dark place away from direct sunlight
- Avoid moisture - don't store near stove or sink
- Use within 18-24 months for optimal freshness
- Don't refrigerate unopened tea (can cause condensation)
